First Ride on a Gates Belt Drive Bike, I Think I'm In Love..

Today I’ll be doing my first ever test ride on a gates belt drive bike. I’ve been wanting to test out a belt drive bicycle for years, and was beyond excited for today’s first ride review!

The bike I’ll be on today is a 2020 BMC Alpenchallenge AC01 One, which uses Shimano alfine 11 shifters and hub. It has a more sleek hybrid setup with a nice stealthy fender set. This is actually one of our demo bikes from my job here in Japan, but it wasn’t being used this weekend so I was able to borrow it for some fun “testing”.

As many of you know, I’m a daily bike commuter and ride my bike to work every single day (40km / 25mi). My regular commuting bikes have been getting destroyed from all of the sand, dirt and mud along the river paths that I commute on (which often flood). I’ve been strongly considering getting a new commuter bike with a gates belt drive system because I’ve heard they are very low maintenance, easy to clean, and last a long time.

One of the first things I noticed was how insanely quiet this bike is, it’s ridiculous.. Anyway, watch the video to hear more of my thoughts about first ride review on the gates belt drive!
