Surfing With A Spinal Cord Injury | Wings for Life World Run

A top junior surfer on the cusp of turning pro in 1996, Jesse Billauer’s life changed when a wave threw him headfirst into a sandbar, breaking his sixth vertebrae. Although he was rendered a quadriplegic, his story most certainly did not end there.

Driven to return to the water, he helped develop adaptive equipment and dedicated himself to doing whatever it took to get back on the surfboard. He was successful, and knew that the unique experiences of surfing and skating could help improve the quality of life for others affected by a spinal cord injury.

His foundation, Life Rolls On, makes that a reality with surf and skate events on both coasts – life-changing experiences for all involved, whether in a wheelchair or not.
