Lyrics:
don’t write cause I don’t think
I don’t have a need to speak
I don’t see the bright side, quite as clear
Accolades and happy days
They don’t ever last
Stories of courage clouded up with fear

In the broom grass I would l lie
Glimmer in my eye, the sun smiled back on me
From Victory, I tried
To match eternal light with how I live my life
Of course, I was forced to retreat
From victory I accept defeat

Waxy green and yellow walls
Outside my window fall
Covering the light I thought I’d see
Am I sad or am I sick?
What’s at the root of it?
Do I throw my hands and quit?
Something tells me no

In the broom grass I would l lie
Glimmer in my eye, the sun smiled back on me
From victory, I tried
To match eternal light with how I live my life
Of course, I was forced to retreat
From victory I accept defeat

Worries on all sides of my mind
In silence, my darkness is denied

In the broom grass I would l lie
Glimmer in my eye, the sun smiled back on me
From victory, I tried
To match eternal light with how I live my life
Of course, I was forced to retreat
From victory I accept defeat
From victory I accept defeat

  1. The Avett Brothers music fills every moment with celebration, comfort, and sincerity. I heard for the first time just two days ago after learning our in utero baby had died. This song has been on repeat since then. Thank you, Seth and Scott, for putting to music the words that are balm to the soul. Our baby's name is Victory Job.

  2. I’ve got to see these guys in concert!!! I’ve always loved there sound it’s one of a kind. November blue was played at my wedding. My best friend walked toward me to walk life’s journey together. I’ll never forget that feeling.

  3. The harmony is exquisite, and the guitar work is magical. Side point: the only comment section on YouTube where I don’t feel like an alien from outer space is on an Avett Brothers video. Almost every comment I read makes me feel less alone in the world. 😊

  4. Had one of the Best Nights of My Life when the AVETT BROTHERS played @ The EMBASSY THEATRE, Downtown FT. WAYNE, IN about 3 years Ago.
They sang IN THE GARDEN Acapela & asked the Audience to Join in. That's one of my Most Loved Hymns & I began crying. They Sang it Beautifully! Thank You So Much.
