Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, The Outsider premieres January 12 at 9pm on HBO. #HBO #TheOutsiderHBO

The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.

The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.

  1. This cast is perfect. Bill Camp, Jeremy Bobb, Cynthia Erivo, mendelsohn, Vasquez, Nicholson, menchaca I could keep going. Who ever cast this deserves a pat on the back. I just realised how little credit I have given Jason Bateman considering how much entertainment hes given me through the years.

  2. Now this is the show we have been waiting for.

No woke nonsense. No propaganda. Just good old fashioned mystery, top notch cinematography, pacing and story telling.

    10/10 for me so far.

  3. I'm really into this show, it's genuinely unsettling… & Ben Mendelsohn is truly a gem to television… I have to say I was worried about the show dropping in quality after the first two episodes. But then it picked up its pace again in episode 4.

  4. Trying to remember where I first saw Cythia Erivo besides this show, then it dawned on me – she sang the hell out of Purple Rain as a tribute to Prince. She's awesome everywhere.

  5. I just started reading the book and saw that they made a show, I’m only like 70 pages in, but to see that it obviously gets pretty interesting is making me really excited to read the rest of the book

  6. I started watching the series as soon as it started- and it's good. Really, really good. And it gets better with each episode. I haven't watched a show in a while where I can't wait until the next episode airs. It's on Sunday nights (tonight- yess!!!) and I'm genuinely psyched to watch it and see what happens next.
There are complex characters that you're genuinely interested in and drawn to. (I LOVE the addition of Holly Gibney (episode 3) SO much.) They've managed to create a mood and ambiance that is so mysterious and charged that you're sitting on the edge of your seat even when nothing is happening. This has definitely become my new favorite show!!
