Urban Roots began adding the covers to three hoop houses on a site owned by Renown Health at the corner of Second and Gould Streets. The site will house 20 raised beds and the planting should start in June.
The non-profit organization works with members of AmeriCorps, to teach children how to grow food. It is partnering with Renown Health on the project, which will also feed low-income patients who suffer from heart disease.
Urban Roots is founded on the idea that food is a powerful tool for academic and sustainable agriculture instruction. In order to realize our mission of growing healthy minds, bodies, and communities, we provide school and farm-based opportunities for teachers, students, families, and future farmers.
